CASTERTON 10A - Casterton School
Casterton School (1823-2013), Casterton, Cumbria.
This independent school for girls moved to Casterton from nearby Cowan Bridge in 1833. Built as a school for daughters of the clergy, its 1824 register showed the names of four Bronte sisters. The school's founder, Reverend Carus-Wilson is believed to have been the model for Mr Brocklehurst in Jane Eyre. Casterton School closed down in 2013 following a merger with Sedbergh School.
