The Shireburn Chapel contains memorials to the Shireburn family who lived at Stonyhurst (now part of Stonyhurst College). Sir Richard died in 1594.

On the north wall of the chapel is a monument with kneeling figures facing each other across a prayer desk. This is dedicated to Sir Richard’s son, also Richard, and his wife Catherine. The Shireburn family lived at Stonyhurst (now part of Stonyhurst College). Richard died in 1629.

The 14th century head is circular, and each side is carved with a depiction of the Crucifixion.
The rest of the cross dates from 1897.
The inscription at the base reads,
"TO THE GLORY OF GOD, AND TO COMMEMORATE THE X111 HUNDRETH YEAR OF CHRISTIANITY IN BRITAIN".

Cromwell's Bridge spanning the River Hodder in the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire.
Built in 1562, this is a narrow three arched footbridge with no parapets.
Oliver Cromwell and his 8,000 strong parliamentary army are said to have crossed the bridge during his march from Skipton to intercept the Royalists at the Battle of Preston in 1648.
J R R Tolkien also visited this area frequently in the 1940s when his son was studying at Stonyhurst College. Brandywine Bridge in the Lord of the Rings is believed to have been based on this bridge.

This fine church was the first major work of the architect J J Scholes (1798 – 1863), and the beginning of his long association with the Jesuit Order. It was built in the 1830s in Gothic Revival Perpendicular style.
