JOAN: As a Cumbrian born and bred, I'm really enjoying being able to combine my appreciation of the northern countryside with my lifelong passion for photography. I love the thrill of seeing a spectacular landscape for the first time and discovering new places. I enjoy fascinating histories, finding hidden treasures, seeing all things quirky, and sitting for hours watching the wildlife. Hopefully through this site I will be able to share these experiences with you and give you lots of ideas for great places to visit.

OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS:  My grandsons,  Jackson Martin (14) and Billy Martin (10) have made a few contributions as a result of our photographic outings!

EQUIPMENT: By the end of 2019, a long-standing relationship with Nikon was sadly ended after being tempted by the size and weight of the Sony mirrorless cameras. CAMERA: Since May 2020 I have been using the amazing Sony A7R IV. MOST USED LENSES: Sony FE 4/16-35 for landscape, Sony FE 4/24-105 for long hikes when I only want to carry one lens, Sony FE 2.8/90 for macro and Sony FE 5.6-6.3/200-600 with 1.4 teleconverter for wildlife. FILTERS: Gobe. TRIPOD: Zomei with Smallrig L-Bracket.

I have never wandered onto private land, taken close-ups of people without their permission, or caused distress to wildlife, but please let me know if you would like me to remove a photo of your property or yourself from this site.
