The War Memorial, St. John's Church, Hutton Roof, Cumbria.
In the churchyard is a war memorial bearing the name of the vicar of Hutton Roof, Rev. T.B. Hardy who was a chaplain to the forces in the First World War. In spite of being in his fifties, he insisted on serving in the trenches with the 8th Lincolns at the Battle of Passchendaele. He won the Victoria Cross for rescuing men from no-man’s land but was killed during the last few months of the war.
