Market Cross, Milnthorpe, Cumbria.
The shaft and base are 18th century, whereas the ball on the octagonal corniced top is probably 19th century.
Riots, due to the building of the railway in 1845, meant that the cross was taken down and mounted on top of a lock-up that was built on the same site. The lock up was removed in 1862, and the cross returned to ground level.
