Gillow and Co: Founded by Robert Gillow (1704- 1772)
A furniture making firm based in Lancaster and London which was founded in Lancaster.

The museum is housed in the 1764 Port of Lancaster Custom House which was designed by the local cabinet-maker and architect, Richard Gillow. Beside the museum are buildings which belonged to the wealthy Quaker slave trader, Dodshon Foster.

Robert Gillow started cabinet making in 1730. Known for producing high-quality furniture, Gillows & Co was operated by the family until 1814. These premises in Lancaster were their offices and workshops until 1882.
