Built in 1937 by Armstrong Whitworth of Newcastle, the engine was preserved in 1967 and named Eric Treacy after the former Bishop of Wakefield, an eminent railway photographer.

The station, originally known as Newby Bridge Platform, then Newby Bridge Halt was originally opened by the Furness Railway in 1905, but services were withdrawn in 1949. However trains continued to pass through the station until the line was closed by British Railways in 1965. Preservation steam services began in 1973.

The Tornado Steam Locomotive 60163 crossing Ribblehead Viaduct in the Yorkshire Dales on the second day of the first timetabled mainline steam passenger service in Britain in 50 years.
The Tornado is the newest steam locomotive to be built in Briitain and it wiill haul six mainline services between Skipton and Appleby over three days from the 14th to 16th February 2017 to mark the re-opening of the Carlisle to Settle line at the end of March.
