The present building dates from 1750 but corn has been ground here since 1220. This photo shows the new turbine house. The mill closed in 1958, bringing to an end 900 years of commercial corn milling. The mill buildings are now used for educational and arts projects.

On the left of the photo is the 1740 Heron Corn Mill, and on the right, a paper milll, established in 1788 and currently operated by BillerudKorsnäs who produce medical equipment packaging and food packaging.

Eskdale Corn Mill at Boot in Eskdale, the Lake District, Cumbria.
Records show a working mill at this site on the banks of Whillan Beck from 1294, and the central structure of the present mill is thought to date back to around 1547. It is the last working water mill in the Lake District, and one of the oldest in England.
The bridge was an 18th century packhorse bridge, later widened for road traffic.

Damside Windmill from Broadfleet Bridge at Pilling on the Wyre Coast of Lancashire.
This old wooden post mill was built in 1808 by the Wyre millwright, Ralph Stater. Steam power was added to turn the lower grinding stones in 1886, while the upper ones continued to be turned by sails. Soon after, storm damage meant the sails had to be removed.
The mill is a private residence.

A corn mill is recorded at Rutter Force in 1579. The waterfall on Hoff Beck contined to power the mill until the repeal of the Corn Laws of 1832 which made milling unprofitable. The mill was then converted to a bobbin mill, and later a sawmill. The waterwheel was taken down in 1940 and replaced with a replica in 1991.

Marsh Mill was built as a corn mill in 1794. In 1930, two prospective buyers, Alice Baldwin and Mary Jane Bailey stepped onto the fantail platform which collapsed, and the women fell to their deaths.
