Hodge Close Quarry, Tilberthwaite
Hodge Close Quarry, one of many slate workings in the Tilberthwaite Valley, between Langdale and Coniston in the Lake District, Cumbria.
Hodge Close was operational from the 19th century to the early 1960s. The 100 metre open pit was flooded to a depth of 50 metres to prevent easy access into the lower chambers. The waters and walls now present a popular challenge for experienced divers and climbers.
