Bamburgh Castle
Bamburgh Castle dominating the landscape around Bamburgh on the Northumberland Coast.
There has been a settlement on this volcanic outcrop since prehistoric times, and has been the site of a royal stronghold since 547 AD. There are still Norman features, including the large 12th century keep, but much renovation and building work was carried out by Lord Armstrong from 1894 -1904. The castle is still owned by the Armstrong family.
