Moughton Whetstone
Pieces of the fine-grained, red and green Moughton whetstone found in the spring at Moughton Whetstone Hole. This Silurian Austwick sandstone has developed liesegang rings due to the weathering of iron oxides in the sandstone. This attractive sandstone was used for sharpening agricultural implements and was also transported to urban areas for use in the steel industry.
