St William's Hill, Middleton
William's Hill motte and bailey castle, Middleham in Wensleydale, Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire.
William's Hill is a late 11th century earth and timber ringwork fortress. It was built early in the reign of William Rufus and was superseded by the late Norman stone castle at the bottom of the hill, soon after 1180.
